CNEWSDO(8CN) CNEWSDO(8CN) NAME cnewsdo - run C News maintenance commands SYNOPSIS cnewsdo command [argument ...] DESCRIPTION Cnewsdo runs any of the C News maintenance commands (see news- maint(8CN))--or indeed any command in the normal C News shell search path--after first setting up a suitable PATH and umask, and checking that the commands are being run under the same user id that owns the active file (see newsdb(5)). This is essentially a convenience, especially for novice news adminis- trators and those who believe there is special virtue in being able to invoke various kinds of administrative functionality through a single command. SEE ALSO newsmaint(8CN) DIAGNOSTICS ``running as `abc', should be running as `def''' means that cnewsdo is being run as abc, but def owns the active file (and therefore, presum- ably, the rest of the news system). HISTORY Written at U of Toronto by Henry Spencer and Geoff Collyer. BUGS Arguably, most any problem addressed by cnewsdo should be addressed by news-administrator education instead. 14 Aug 1994 CNEWSDO(8CN)
