bu_check_files(1) Manpage for bu_check_files bu_check_files(1)

NAME
bu_check_files -	Verify the file	integrity of backupuser(1) backups

SYNOPSIS
       bu_check_files [-u] [-d BACKUP]
       bu_check_files etc

DESCRIPTION
The bu_check_files utility is used to verify the integrity of backups
created with backupuser(1). The script is meant to be copied to the lo-
cation of the backups on	the external storage device. When run, it will
generate	the reportfile ${USER}_report, which can then be compared with
the reportfile on the original medium of	creation.

If upon invocation, "etc" is passed as an argument, then	bu_check_files
generates a reportfile for backups made of the /etc directory.

EXAMPLES
Verify the integrity of our 2017	backups:

       cp /usr/local/bin/bu_check_files	/path/to/external/storage
       /path/to/external/storage/bu_check_files
       diff /path/to/external/storage/user_report ~/backups/2017/user_report

BUGS
       Please report when found.
