Google has created a set of fonts for it's ChromeOS Operating system. The three standard ones closely mimic the most popular ones for the Windows platform and the linuxso-called Liberation fonts but are available under an OpenFont license. Tinos, Arimo and Cousine, appear to be variations of the old standard Times, Arial and Courier. PR: ports/164229 Submitted by: Pedro Giffuni

The development is being funded by Canonical Ltd on behalf the wider Free Software community and the Ubuntu project. The proggy programmer's fonts (Proggy Clean, Proggy Square, Proggy Small,
and Proggy Tiny) are a set of fixed-width screen fonts that are designed
for code listings. Each font only comes in one size that it looks good at.
The fonts were optimized while coding in C or C++. For this reason,
characters like the '*' were placed vertically centered, as '*' usually
means dereference or multiply, but never 'to the power of' like in Fortran.
The {}s are centered horizontally (as the author's coding style aligns
braces vertically), the zero looks different from the capital oh, and there
is never any confusion between ells, ones, and eyes. Additionally, the
arithmetic operators (+ - * < >) are all axis aligned.

Here are new Linux Fedora 10 infrastructure ports. Those ports are intended to be used with 8-CURRENT at least with SVN r192206. If you want to switch to linux-f10 ports, please define at /etc/make.conf: OVERRIDE_LINUX_BASE_PORT=f10 OVERRIDE_LINUX_NONBASE_PORTS=f10 An upgrading procedure is shown at /usr/ports/UPDATING, entries 20090401 and 20070327. For the first time all tested linux ports work as expected(!): . acroread8; . google-earth; . skype; . seamonkey. Many thanks for kernel folks who really did the main work (and I wrote only some lines of ports). There is a good chance that those ports may become a default for 8.0-RELEASE. Please, test and report back to emulation@ ML.

Here are new Linux Fedora 8 infrastructure ports. The recommended version of FreeBSD to use them is 8-CURRENT. FreeBSD-7.x is not fully compatible with compat.linux.osrelease 2.6.16. Some syscalls cannot be MFCed due to native FreeBSD ABI breakage. Usage (and package building): 1. define compat.linux.osrelease=2.6.16; 2. add following variables to /etc/make.conf: . OVERRIDE_LINUX_BASE_PORT=f8; . OVERRIDE_LINUX_NONBASE_PORTS=f8. Approved by: bsam (me) ;-)

The mission of the Scientific and Technical Information Exchange (STIX) font creation project is the preparation of a comprehensive set of fonts that serve the scientific and engineering community in the process from manuscript creation through final publication, both in electronic and print formats. Toward this purpose, the STIX fonts will be made available, under royalty-free license, to anyone, including publishers, software developers, scientists, students, and the general public. Add port x11-fonts/tmu: The Tibetan & Himalayan Digital Library releases the Unicode character based Tibetan Machine Uni OpenType font for writing Tibetan, Dzongkha and Ladakhi in dbu-can script with full support for the Sanskrit combinations found in chos skad texts. This font is based on the Tibetan Machine font originally designed and developed by Tony Duff of the Tibetan Computer Company over many years, the rights of which were purchased from him by the Trace Foundation in order to make it freely available under the terms of the Gnu General Public License. Add mgopen. The MgOpen typefaces are freely available and contain glyphs for viewing texts in Greek (written in the monotoniko system). The MgOpen typeface collection is composed of the following typefaces: - MgOpenCanonica is a serif typeface, based on the design of Times Roman. - MgOpenCosmetica is a sans-serif typeface, based on the design of Optima. - MgOpenModata is another sans-serif typeface. - MgOpenModerna is a sans-serif typeface, based on the design of Helvetica. Each family contains four fonts, namely all the combinations of regular and bold weight and upright and italic (or oblique) shape. Add arkpandora 2.04, This font pack is designed for screen and print and as a "drop-in" replacement for Arial and Time New Roman, so people can stop using not-so-free Webfonts from Microsoft. You get the following fonts: Aerial, Aerial Mono, Tymes & Veranda (no this is not a typo). It will automatically make the fonts recognizable by the system. Automate the download and install of the .ttf fonts MicroSoft is giving away on http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fontpack/default.htm As much as their "Install these high quality TrueType fonts, and whenever you visit a Web site that specifies them, you'll see pages exactly as the site designer intended" irritates me, the fonts are usefull and contain multiple character sets too. The MicroSoft's EULA: http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fontpack/eula.htm allows for unlimited copying and distribution, but not for profit, hence the disabled package building :( The fonts can be used for other-than-X11 applications and do NOT need the X_PREFIX.
