Hawk is a web based utility for monitoring and comparing hosts on your
network with what is in DNS. Hosts that are answering pings but are not
in DNS may be unauthorized, and addresses in DNS which are not answering
may be able to be reclaimed. Hawk monitors all hosts on the networks
you specify and lets you view them via a web page.

Hawk consists of a backend written in Perl that monitors hosts by ICMP
pings and writes the status to a mysql database. The frontend is in
PHP and lets you select which network to view, and how to view it.

This version has several enhancements to the original; including cleaner
Perl code, a user-definable string to designate unused addresses that
are in DNS, testing that the forward and reverse hostnames match, and
the daemon forks one process pre subnet.

This module supports the ability to retrieve data from several
different models of TL1 devices. Explictly supported devices
include the following:

* Cisco ONS15327
* Cisco ONS15454
* Cisco ONS15808
* Nortel OME 6500
* Nortel HDXc
* Ciena CoreDirector
* Infinera DTC
* Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 7500

Each specifically supported device has its own
GRNOC::TL1::Device module, which sets the default port and
prompt used for that device. They also may each export their
own unique commands on top of what is already provided in
GRNOC::TL1::Device. Raw commands and output can be sent and
received, or output can be parsed via the parse function, or
by calling a function for that device.

Zenoss comes with the nagios command check_ping. This zenpack implements that
nagios ping check. The template provides the Round-Trip-Average time along with
the packet loss rate. These two graphs are put in the "Performance" tab for each
device utilizing this template.

This ZenPack consists of a report for listing each MAC address and the Device
and Interface it is associated with. This report makes use of the layer 2
catalog already present in Zenoss. It only allows sorting by MAC address and is
not exportable. The author made this decision because the processing time was
too great for an installation with more than a few thousand interfaces. The
author can make another one available that is exportable and sortable by the
other two fields (device and interface), if anyone decides they would like to
live through the painful wait time.

More details can be found at provided url.

This ZenPack provides the ability to quickly search for Devices by their name
or by their IP address. Search is triggered by typing 3 or more characters
into the text box, which then returns the first 10 matches. The use of the
asterisk wild-card is supported, so you may search for fuzzy matches
dynamically.

When troubleshooting network issues, it can be very useful to have all the
interface graphs for a device on the same screen. This helps with spotting
trends, or tracing where traffic is flowing through a switch or router. The
only way to natively achieve this with Zenoss is to create a graph or
multi-graph report for every network device manually, which can be a chore
if you have more than a few network devices.

This ZenPack provides a new link on the left side of a device detail view
called "Interface Graphs" - this view shows the graphs for all of the network
interfaces on the device in one place, allowing for fast spotting of issues
or traffic flows. Both the interface name and the description (if any) are
used to title the graphs to aid with identification.

Note that with stacked switches, you can end up with a very large number of
graphs on the page, so tuning this slightly via the configuration properties
below could be a good idea in these situations.

- Add p5-FusionInventory-Agent 2.1.9

fusioninventory-agent is an agent for OCS Inventory server and
FusionInventory for GLPI servers. It creates local inventory of the
machines (hardware and software) and send it to the server. It can also
write it in a local XML file. This agent is the successor of the former
linux_agent which was released with OCS 1.01 and prior. It also replaces
the Solaris/AIX/BSD unofficial agents.

Add new port net-mgmt/check_logfiles

Nagios plugin which scans log files for specific patterns.

This plugin looks for patterns in files. It is capable of detecting
logfile rotation. If you tell it how the rotated archives look like, it
will also examine these files. Traditional logfile plugins were not aware
of the gap which could occur, so under some circumstances they ignored
what had happened between their checks. In a production environment
this is not tolerable, that's why check_logfiles came into being.

MKLivestatus is a very simple and smart Nagios eventbroker module.
Livestatus is concepted and tuned to reduce disk, memory and cpu loads
caused by live-data processing on the Nagios system. Just as NDO,
Livestatus makes use of the Nagios Event Broker API and loads a binary
module into the Nagios process. But other than NDO, Livestatus does not
actively write out data e.g. to the disk. Instead, it opens a socket for
external applications to connect to and fetch the current status
information from Nagios.

The general idea of these scripts is to check as many things as possible with
SNMP: disks, memory, load, network interfaces, running processes, etc...

The other idea is to select disks, interfaces, process using regular
expressions:

- it is possible to test more than one disk/int/process in one Nagios check
  (ex.: eth* instead of eth0,eth1,eth2,...)

- you only have to provide a unique part of the name to select a
disk/int/process (ex. : "C:" instead of "C:\ Label: Serial Number xxxxxxx"
makes it easy to use on multiple Windows hosts).

Most of these scripts can make performance outputs.

check_puppet - is a very simple Nagios plugin to check Puppet daemon
availability with SNMP.

Why check_puppet?

1. It does check whether puppetd and puppetmasterd is alive.

2. It does check state.yaml freshness

3. It does not require the full net-mgmt/nagios-plugins package on the client
side

4. It is written in sh - code interpreter available in a base system

check_multi is kind of a wrapper plugin which takes benefit of the
Nagios 3.x capability to display multiple lines of plugin output.
It calls multiple child plugins and displays their output in the
long_plugin_output. A summary is given in the standard plugin output.
The child return code with the highest severity becomes the parent
(check_multi) plugin return code.

The configuration is very simple: a NRPE-stylish config file contains
a tag for each child plugin and then the check command line.

check_multi can cover complex Business Process Views - using a builtin
state evaluation mechanism. The second benefit is cluster monitoring
with no need for extra services. All you need is provided by check_multi.

This package provides a suite of modules for managing NetApp's NAS
devices, commonly referred to as "filers".

This is the first public release of my NetApp Perl API, and although I
consider the code to be very stable, the API should be considered
experimental. The convention I will be following regarding
non-compatible API changes is as follows. I'm using a
major.minor.subminor release naming convention, and I will promise to
NOT make non-backwards compatible changes between subminor releases.

However, in order to allow the API to evolve, it is entirely possible
that non-backwards compatible changes will be made between minor
releases. IOW, the major.minor release numbers can be considered an
API version. Any changes to 1.1.0, 1.1.2, etc. must be backwards
compatible with the previous 1.1.* releases.

There is no guarantee that 1.2.0 will be 100% backwards compatible,
although such changes will be made only when justified. The author
does not believe in infinite backwards compatibility.

This is a small Nagios plugin. This plugin relies on portaudit
and/or portupgrade packages to be installed on your FreeBSD system.
With these packages installed, the plugin will scan your system for
either vulnerable packages, or obsolete packages - and display
appropriate warnings to Nagios.

Portaudit can also be successfully run remotely from nrpe, and does
not require superuser privileges to operate.

This is a plugin package for Nagios. Quoting from the
snmp4nagios home page:

SNMP4Nagios is a package of Nagios plugins which use SNMP
to query hosts. While some of the plugins use standard MIBs,
most are designed for vendor specific agents.

Unlike other Nagios plugins, they are able to scan hosts for
objects which can be monitored. They also can keep performance
logs and draw plots of these using Tobias Oetiker's RRDTool.

Currently devices by Brocade, Cisco, Compaq/HP and Network Appliance
as well as computers running Microsoft Windows or Net-SNMP
and uninterruptable power supplies are supported.

Hobbit is a system for monitoring servers and networks. It has a great deal
of inspiration from the Big Brother monitor, but unlike Big Brother it is
designed to work well whether you need to monitor small network with just
a handful of hosts, or large networks with thousands of hosts.

Hobbit is the successor to the bbgen toolkit, which has been available as
an add-on to Big Brother since late 2002. The name change was decided upon
when Hobbit acquired enough functionality to be a stand-alone product.
The tools that formed the bbgen toolkit are still present in Hobbit
and are quite important for it, so if you have used bbgen before,
Hobbit will seem quite familiar.

This module collects ip validation routines to make input validation, and
untainting easier and more readable.

All functions return an untainted value if the test passes, and undef if it
fails. This means that you should always check for a defined status
explicitly. Don't assume the return will be true. (e.g. is_username('0'))

The value to test is always the first (and often only) argument.

[NEW PORT] net-mgmt/send: Secure Neighbor Discovery implementation for IPv6

DoCoMo's Open Source SEND project provides an implementation of
RFC3971 Secure Neighbor Discovery (SEND). SEND cryptographically
secures the IPv6 neighbor discovery protocol, countering the threats
discussed in RFC3756 (IPv6 Neighbor Discovery (ND) Trust Models and
	Threats).

DoCoMo's SEND is implemented completely in user space, so it is
portable and lends itself to experimentation. It currently runs on
Linux (tested on 2.6 kernels) and FreeBSD (tested on 5.4).

Also included in the distribution are implementations of RFC3972
Cryptographically Generated Addresses (CGAs) and RFC3779 X.509
Extensions for IP Addresses and AS Identifiers.

	WWW: http://www.docomolabs-usa.com/lab_osrc_guide.html

Doesn't work on FreeBSD > 6.x though. Hopefully the submitter will
submit patches for it now it is commited.

of the network links of your network. The required data are acquired from
graphs created by the MRTG package and are displayed as two ways colored arrows
on a map representing the logical topology of the network. The resulted image
is presented in a web page using extra DHTML and JavaScript code for web-over
pop-ups, based on the OverLib JavaScript library.

- Add Develoment version of net-mgmt/rancid

Rancid monitors a router's (or device's) configuration, including software
and hardware (cards, serial numbers, etc), using CVS. Rancid currently
supports Bay routers, Cisco routers, Juniper routers, Catalyst switches,
Foundry switches, Redback NASs, ADC EZT3 muxes, MRTd (and thus likely IRRd),
Alteon switches, HP procurve switches, Hitachi routers.

Rancid logs into each of the devices in a router table file, runs various
commands, chomps the output, and emails any differences ( sample) from
the previous collection to a mail list.

A looking glass is also included with rancid, based on Ed Kern's in use on
http://nitrous.digex.net/. Rancid version has added functions, supports cisco,
juniper, and foundry and uses the login scripts that come with rancid;
so it can use rsh, telnet, or ssh to connect to your router(s).

bsnmp-regex is a module for bsnmpd which allows creation of counters from log
files, program output or other text data. The counters use regular expressions
to count the number of matches, or parse out specific text/numbers. The
resulting data can then be queried or graphed with the usual SNMP tools.

Bacula-web is a php based web program that provides you a summarized output
of jobs that have already run. It obtains its information from your catalog
database. Aside from a nice graphical display, it provides summaries of your
jobs, as well as graphs of job usage. This is a fairly high level bacula
management tool. Here are a few points that one user made concerning this
important tool:

- It is web-based so can be accessed from anywhere.
- It is "read only" users can examine the state of the backups but not write
to anything and therefore do no damage
- It packs a phenomenal amount of information into a single web-page - that I
credit as being very good design!

The documentation for bacula-web can be found in a separate bacula-web
document in the bacula-docs release.

NDPMon is an equivalent of ArpWatch for IPv6.

NDPMon, Neighbor Discovery Protocol Monitor, is a tool working with
ICMPv6 packets. NDPMon observes the local network to see if nodes
using neighbor discovery messages behave properly. When it detects
a suspicious Neighbor Discovery message, it notifies the administrator
by writing in the syslog and in some cases by sending an email

configurations, boot images, and kernels images

These files are often tranfered with TFTP, but TFTP
has reliability and speed issues and file size
limitations due to it's protocol specification and
underlying transport; while RCP is not affected.

IPAcco is a free software package that helps a network admin
to collect, visualize and analyze IP accounting data from the
Cisco routers.
Cisco routers themselves are capable of collecting IP accounting
information . i.e. an unordered set of IP source-destination
pairs along with a byte and packet counters corresponding to all
network traffic flows that passed through the router's interfaces.
These data can be a useful source for various analysis procedures
and billing systems but by itself, in their raw form they are
rather difficult to read and understand. In addition, a router
cannot keep a lot of data . its memory is needed for purposes
other than remembering what traffic, from what sources and where
it forwarded two month ago.

[New Port] net-mgmt/ourmon: Network Monitoring and Anomaly Detection System

Ourmon is a network management and anomaly detection system
for performing various SNMP RMON-like network analysis
tasks. It uses the BSD bpf in combination with RRDTOOL as
well as various "top talker" style tuples including: top-N
flows which include IP, TCP, UDP, and ICMP flows, top SYN
senders, top TCP/UDP ports, top single IP src to many IP
dst senders, top single IP src to L4 (TCP/UDP), top ICMP
errors which includes UDP creators of ICMP errors and other
tools for both network management and anomaly detection.
RRDTOOL graphs include a year of baselined information.
New RRDTOOL graphs may be designed with user-configured BPF
expressions a la tcpdump. Reports and logging for top
	talkers are also included.

New port: net-mgmt/torrus The Data Series Processing Framework -
think mrtg with xml configs

Torrus is designed to be the universal data series processing framework.
Although most users deploy Torrus for SNMP monitoring, it might be useful for
data series of any nature. Tobi Oetiker's RRDtool is used for data storage.

    * Configuration compiler and validator. It processes the XML configuration
files and saves the configuration into a database.
    * View renderer and the web interface. They generate HTML and the graphical
representation of the datasources and provide user authentication and
authorization. All generated output is controlled by the configuration
parameters and templates. The users can easily create their own
      presentation of data series.
    * SNMP Collector. Modular collector core architecture allows further
extension with new collector and storage types. Any datasource can have
      its own polling schedule.
    * SNMP Device Discovery Tool. Devdiscover is a new, modular, flexible, and
expandable tool for automatic generation of Torrus configuration files.
New device types and MIBs are easily added as independent Perl modules.
    * Threshold monitor. All data, regardless of their type and nature, can be
monitored according to the user-defined rules. The rules can also include
the datasource-specific parameters, e.g. boundary values etc. The
thresholds are specified by RPN expressions.

Add net-mgmt/tcptrack:

tcptrack is a sniffer which displays information about TCP connections it
sees on a network interface. It passively watches for connections on the
network interface, keeps track of their state and displays a list of
connections in a manner similar to the unix 'top' command. It displays
source and destination addresses and ports, connection state, idle time, and
bandwidth usage.

Add net-mgmt/nfdump:

NFDUMP tools support netflow v5 and v7 capturing and processing.

nfcapd - netflow capture daemon.
Reads the netflow data from the network and stores the data into files.

nfdump - netflow dump.
Reads the netflow data from the files stored by nfcapd. It's syntax is similar
to tcpdump. If you like tcpdump you will like nfdump.

nfprofile - netflow profiler.
Reads the netflow data from the files stored by nfcapd. Filters the netflow
data according to the specified filter sets ( profiles ) and stores the
filtered data into files for later use.

nfreplay - netflow replay
Reads the netflow data from the files stored by nfcapd and sends it over
the network to another host.
